“It raineth every day….”

Is a melancholy refrain from Feste the Fool’s final song in Twelfth Night.

According to my friend Mr Google, “it signifies the inevitability of life’s hardships, trials, and passing time, suggesting that despite happy moments, troubles are a daily, constant, and inescapable part of human existence….”

Cheery stuff….?!

I wonder whether the “trials” referred to are races like The Craven and the Fred Darling and The Greenham…..??

It still “raineth every day” – and parts of the country are deep underwater. And Sussex is in danger of slipping its moorings and becoming a Channel Isle. But there is also the merest hint of spring in snowdrops and daffodils and a slither of dawn light on distant horizon…

And so this “raineth” bit will abate, and the gnawing damp that sits deep in the bones will give way to spring cheer and galloping 2-year-olds and wild dreams and bubbles that are yet to go “pop”. And before long, there will be talk of “watering” and “hosepipe bans” and “fast ground at Royal Ascot”….

It raineth here right now. And probably will for most of the day. But in our game, there is no room for the “inevitability of life’s hardships.” It can all be unbearably tough at times when bad luck intervenes to mess with several hopes and aspirations – but there is literally no point in being anything other than on the front foot and brim filled with optimism. No point at all…

And I have just spotted another daffodil, and before we are standing together with Guinness soaked fingers in a few short weeks, the Weather Gods will have relented. And Spring will have sprung. And all will be well…

The figure “£20 million” appeared in the racing media yesterday….

A boost to prize money ?? Wow, that would be good….

Nope, the figure that the flawed Racing Digital is now expected to cost. I thought the £5.9 million that was mentioned earlier in the week was bonkers enough, but £20 million….?????

Racing Digital replacing the current Racing Admin – which works perfectly well to my mind…

Jeez, £20 million. Really ?? No wonder folk are shaking their heads and walking away…

Anyway, enough doom and gloom. It may raineth still, but not long until Cheltenham, The Lincoln, The Craven, Aintree, Punchestown etc….

What fun we will have….
