Every winning day is a “red letter day”, whether we are racing at Royal Ascot, Glorious Goodwood, or “Downtown Dunstall Park” (Wolverhampton). Winning on the bigger stages is a prime objective, but seeing the less talented horses pass the post first is just as rewarding. Finding the right race for our horses is imperative, and long hours with both the UK and Continental Programme Books have been rewarded time and again. We have never been scared to travel our horses to far flung outposts when a winning opportunity arises. Have horse, will travel!

We have travelled extensively across Europe with runners. We took a horse to run in the Spanish Arc in 2015, and have had winners in Belgium, France, Switzerland and Germany.  Belgian Bill won in Istanbul last September, adding to his win in Dubai the previous year. Whilst Ancient Greece made history on St Moritz’s frozen lake when winning at all three February meetings in 2013. And Sir Alex Ferguson’s If I Had Him was Champion horse in the Channel Islands in 2014, and the ridiculously named George Baker won the Jersey Guineas the following summer.

With a little bit of imagination, and owners who are prepared to gamble a little, we have won many races abroad to compliment the nearly 400 winners trained in the UK.

Open house here !! Come and join in the fun, and let us train your winners !!

What’s it like to own a share in a racehorse? We joined an owner for a morning’s exercise to find out.

When a friend asked Lynn Sargeant if she would like a share in a racehorse, she was surprised but curious.

Not knowing anything about racing she assumed it would……

GBR Partnership with Rashid Equestrian
and Horseracing Club, Bahrain 2021

“The potential here is limitless. The culture of the horse is endemic in the Kingdom and the enthusiasm for the sport of horseracing is tangible.” So says George after an official visit to the island of Bahrain in January 2021.

George Baker Racing is pleased to announce a new partnership with Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club REHC to include the establishment of a permanent satellite training yard in Bahrain. The aim of the partnership is to increase race horse ownership and expand the audience for high class horseracing on the island of Bahrain. As George explains.. “We will be launching racehorse ownership syndicates to suit all budgets and the emphasis will be on ensuring all involved have an exciting and enjoyable experience.” GBR will have permanent stabling at the racecourse and access to all training facilities. George and the team at GBR are thrilled to have been invited to join REHC. “These are exciting times for the sport of horseracing in the Kingdom of Bahrain and it is a privilege and an honour to be involved.”

White Turf St. Moritz February 2020

Every year, fine thoroughbreds from all over Europe and international jockeys take part in the races at the White Turf in St. Moritz enthralling guests from around the world. On three Sundays in February, more than 30,000 spectators flock to the frozen expanse of Lake St. Moritz to witness the excitement and entertainment of the races against the magnificent backdrop of the Engadine mountains.

WARGRAVE, ridden by Denis Schiergen, won the prestigious Group 2 Grosser Preis von St Moritz under an excellent front running ride. This race had been the plan for this horse since Paul Bowden bought him at Tattersalls last autumn. A hugely impressive performance in stunning surroundings !!

Our proximity to both Lingfield Park and Kempton racecourses is a tremendous asset. Whilst it is impossible to completely replicate the raceday experience, it is fantastic to be able to work horses at both tracks. Regular Barrier Trials at Lingfield, organised by the brilliant horsemen Gary and Craig Witheford, provide young horses with invaluable experience. And ensure that the racecourse is not a scary experience on debut.

Both racecourses provide the option of an “away day” for all our horses, and are very beneficial for race preparation. Owners are encouraged to attend and watch these often crucial work mornings.
