A very dull and very tired record….
Taking the dogs for a walk across sodden Sussex fields yesterday afternoon, I went backwards…
Even the poor Weather Forecaster on the radio just now was hugely apologetic. Apparently, the weather improves marginally over the weekend – before descending once more into “hanging damp” next week. What fun….?!
In other “fun” news, the Racing Digital overspend has now reached seventeen trillion pounds. Meaning that there will be no prize money attached to races next year, and we will race around for chocolate cake and rosettes. With Pattern race winners getting two chocolate cakes…
Hard to believe given the weather which I and others have hardly mentioned that the Turf Flat season gets under way next month…
Meaning that the journey miles will crank up considerably. Meaning that the willpower will be tested. On the long slog to Haydock, York, Pontefract and other far flung spots, the temptation to stop for a “settling” Greggs sausage roll or a cheese and ham toastie can be overwhelming. And how about a packet of jelly tots (love them…) and a can of coke, and why not throw in a Yorkie…??
And then on the way home – “No, I am 100% not going to have a McDonalds. Obviously….”
And then a long traffic jam, and into a service station, and a Cheeseburger and Chips goes some way to relieve the tedium. Very rarely – obviously….
I guess I had better keep this running gig going for the Summer…
A runner today. LILLY LUX (Jack Mitchell) to Kempton for the “Way Past My Bedtime Fillies’ Handicap”. A talented mare whose form has been progressive since a long summer break, and she heads to the “delights” of night racing under the floodlights in good order…
GOOLOOGONG up 10 pounds for his hack canter on Kempton’s turf last week. No Cheltenham entries for him this year because the Handicap Hurdles require entrants to have run in a minimum of five hurdle races. Kempton was our boy’s fourth – and so all roads will now lead to a crack at The Imperial Cup on the Saturday before Cheltenham…
