Only Tuesday – but all racing scribes are focussed on Kempton on Saturday already…
Great for the beleaguered (only beleaguered because some folk decided to sign a bit of paper without really thinking it through….) racecourse whose future is in severe doubt, and the turnstiles will click for sure. Some big guns ranged up in opposition. Constitution Hill at around 8/1 – if I had a bottom dollar to bet, I would put it on him going off shorter than that come race time…
Words will bounce around the ether for the rest of the week, and nothing wrong with that. If this wonderful horse can get our sport a little bit of positive mainstream coverage, that’s fantastic. Because we are slipping into the margins. Many newspapers don’t carry all racecards, and the reports on big races are often consigned to the “also ran” paragraphs…
Bad tales in our sport seem to attract more attention than the good ones. So when a good horse looks like he might attract a media frenzy on a Saturday, we should be delighted…

Sales season rolls on. The one day Somerville Sale at Tattersalls tomorrow. A sale that passes plenty of the bigger battalions by – giving others the chance to sneak a bit of value perhaps ?? We shall see. There will, as ever, be good horses catalogued – and plenty of very average ones too…
Luck needed. Hope springs eternal. Good horses define. Good horses make good trainers and good jockeys. Bumping into them is the hard part. “One more walk please”. “What did the Dam do ?” “Does he have a reserve ?” “One more bid….??”
