The word most used in conversations with owners is “patience”. And huge credit to our great friends Mark and Lavinia Sherwood for sticking by us and their horse when many would have cried enough. He was “work in progress” for a very long time – and for a very long time, there was nil certainty that hope would ever evolve into reality. Dead in the eye and knackered from being Ballydoyle gallops fodder, he wandered into our life as a shell of a horse…
But time and patience and more patience and exceptional efforts from our fabulous team have seen this gorgeous horse turn more than a massive corner…
When he was trailing out the back in his early races for us, this particular goose looked very cooked indeed – and talk of jumps Festivals and Cesarewitchs would have been bonkers and barmy. But we can now dream a little…
Dust will settle, the handicapper will have his say tomorrow, and then we can plot a canny path. And we can most certainly throw “Cesarewitchs” and “jumps Festivals” into the conversation…

Perigord Noir running hard and mighty and looked home for all money at Chepstow. But the rail runner had that to help, and we were just run out of it in the shadows of the post. This horse can definitely win as a 2-yr-old, and will improve again for a winter on his back. He is a proper stamp of a sprinter and reminds me very much of an old friend called Harry Hurricane who did us many favours back in the Manton days…
Goodwood yesterday. Owners superbly looked after, and a Sunday lunch that would be hard to match in the many excellent pubs in these parts. Looking after those who provide the product…
The ground on the soft side of good for sure – but drying out to be tacky and tough. Thinthread over racing on the lead and “pedal to the metal” on that going does not work. We are still learning about this talented horse….
