To a pig in the proverbial….

Rock hard ground at Sakhir Racecourse yesterday afternoon. To play to the strengths of some…

Not for Nesthorn who won here in December after a week of unseasonal rain…

“Just like the old days Georgie !! Hard as nails out there….”

From a jockey who pretty much epitomises “hard as nails….”

A shame for Nesthorn. But importantly rock hard ground has not meant hot legs today, and we will regroup, reset and reboot with him. He’s a very talented beast, and plenty of fantastic options for him on several shores…

The faster the better for Desert Cop who so nearly benefitted from the “wishes” of others. Keep those taps turned off, and he loves hearing hooves rattle…

A decent run in the Turf Series on Thursday. But pitched in a day later against seasoned and much higher rated sprinters. But sprinters are sprinters, and spend most of the year taking it in turns to beat each other, and I guess the only surprise is that we were the only ones who chose to back up a promising effort the night before…

It nearly came off. Callum and DC gave us a real shout at the furlong pole, but the 107 rated Chandigah, a surging force in the division, had too much in hand close home. Phil Smith, the Handicapper, rolling his eyes skywards – “what the hell am I going to do with that race….??”

To be honest, I’m not too bothered if we go up a few pounds. Because the day when a big handicap falls on proper fast ground will be an exciting prospect with DC….

Last summer, the rain softened Epsom Dash saw him wheel spin rather than gallop, a bonkers horse tore the Wokingham apart and he had no chance, and then the “biblical” came to “Glorious”….

On we go. Home overnight. Jump racing at Kempton on Monday. Compare and contrast. Chalk and Cheese….

Mad game. Tears at the heart, and pulls you hither and thither. But I love it – and I am very lucky to have some fabulous people around me. They know who they are, and we are going to have one hell of a crack at this in the years to come…
