To “Good to Soft, Soft in places”….

From Sakhir to Kempton…

Any similarities ?? Floodlights. A lake in the infield in Bahrain. A “lake” of sorts at Kempton. That’s about it…

National Hunt racing today. GOOLOOGONG and Tom Cannon in the two mile handicap hurdle…

I love this horse. He had some fair old form in Ireland. But his “fair old form” over there was not at the highest level, and he was in a yard where only the “highest level” would do. He turned up with us looking dead in the eye and exhausted. I would feel the same if I was Mo Farah’s pacemaker every morning…

A lot of corners needed to be turned – but in Mark and Lavinia Sherwood he has wonderfully patient and understanding owners. He has been off for a while, but his wins for us under both codes give much hope that there is fun ahead…

I suspect that we will be going further than today’s two mile trip sooner rather than later, but this is a good place to start. Just around that fun M25 thing from here at Epsom…

That M25 thing was pretty busy this morning as we rattled around it in Sophie’s “car”. Still a car – just. But enough words and numbers on the dashboard to fill a decent novel, and perhaps more than the merest hint that it could be time for a change….

There we go. Fabulous sponsorship opportunity for somebody for a car that will be roaring around the country to several racecourses in the months ahead…!!

Cheltenham clues or muddier waters in Dublin ?? More today…

The Festival raging over that near horizon…

First Lot pulling out. No desert sun to warm the bones. No calls to prayer from distant minarets. No distant fiery gas above nodding donkeys….

Chalk and cheese. Grey February. But not long until spring and hope…
