The day…..

Tomorrow morning (well, this morning when you read this…), we will be on the early and dark road to Kempton. To gallop a couple shortly after dawn. Ahead of that M25 game…

And so I’m writing this to the backdrop of curlers in Cortina…

And to Arsenal warming up in pivotal west midlands rain…

Kempton at dawn is significant and important and hopefully not “much missed”….

The Jockey Club and Redrow have shaken hands on property deals, and it is not “evens each of two” as to who have ended up with the better end of things. For us, the place has been a very important part of the jigsaw. Young horses, pre-paddock, white railings, so much to take in, ears pricked, educational…

If it goes, we will dust ourselves down and face up to the inevitability of change. Because there will be no option. But it will hurt deep and to the core – and you have to wonder why, given the enormity of the acreage, why a racecourse and several hundred houses cannot march hand in hand and side by side…

Arsenal have just scored !! – hard to keep up at this time of night…

Constitution Hill runs on Friday. What fun – and Phew…..!!

But 4/1 for the Champion Hurdle looks silly and absurd, and there will be no change to that price if he bolts up by 10 at Southwell on Friday. Being a risk taker and a gambler and a total fool, I would love to see him line up for the Champion Hurdle in three short weeks time, because if it drops right it will be a day for the ages and an “I was there moment….”

Sport demands risk. Sport demands fine margins. Sport is utterly consuming and brilliant. Just imagine the collective psyche as Nico and Constitution kick away off the home bend with just the last to jump….

I want to be there for that. I will be there if it happens…..

Hopefully, when it happens…

Tomorrow (tonight if you are picking this up on a Thursday morning, by which time I will be on the muddle that is the M25…), DESERT COP and GORDON GREY will fly our standard high in Bahraini sand. Outside each way chances at best – but they are there, and rolling dice, and pressing gamble buttons, and who knows… ??
