Sky. On that eastern horizon. Shepherds, be warned…
But colour in the east is a whole heap better than the pitch black. We are getting there, tiptoeing our way to brighter dawns. And pretty soon, the morning commute will be in the half light….
A long cold and wet winter. Several friends that I have spoken to in recent days have cried enough and, like migratory birds, have fled this isle in search of warmth in the bones. Who can blame them…??
Candida and Tallulah are boarding a flight home from Bahrain right now. With warmth in their bones…
Yesterday’s runners in The Kingdom…
DESERT COP beaten 4 3/4 lengths in the 5 furlong sprint. These sprinters ?! Look at the results of the races over the past few weeks and you will see that they do genuinely seem to beat each other up in turn. Draw and pace bias and split second decisions and closing gaps and races are run…
DC ideally needs cover. Whilst he was behind horses yesterday, he still had a little too much daylight around him. The ideal scenario for him is a crowded field in front of him, a strong pace, rattling fast ground, the leaders faltering and a gap to go through. He will have his days for sure, and was by no means disgraced….
Two races over two days for him in a fortnight. Possibly run in both ? He runs well like that…
And then home, a short break, and then the Dash a few furlongs away from where I’m sitting. On “rattling” please. Be kind, Weather Gods…
GORDON GREY arrived in The Kingdom on the “easy list” after throwing a splint. A very cool horse who will give his new owners some proper sport. He got tired last night as we expected, and Callum looked after him. But he was also very positive in his debrief. Run in a fortnight, home, prepare him for the “Great Metropolitan” in April – “a few furlongs away from where I’m sitting….”
Both horses sound and well this morning…
To London later. For a fitting at Charles Tyrwhitt. “Wardrobe !!” “Make Up !!”…
And then lunch with Barney Baker and our good mate Stevo…
Three weeks today. Gold Cup day. One of my favourites from yesteryear….
TIED COTTAGE. One of the horses that got me hooked on this great game. Bold front runners touch the heart. Sadly, he was later disqualified on a technicality, but this was him at his brilliant best….
1980 – blimey, it feels like yesterday…
