Come along. Inevitably…

Crossbar rattling. A lot better than peppering the corner flag..

Most of our runners recently have wandered back into the Winners Enclosure. Just not the sweet point reserved for those who have prevailed. FIZZY BEAR running tough and game and brave yesterday at Brighton under Callum Shepherd. Beaten an annoying neck….

Personally, I think distances of a neck or less should be called a dead heat. Precluding the long “if only” drive home…..??!!

Of course I don’t really think that – but it would make life one hell of a lot easier not having to deal with the dull thud of disappointment. Part and parcel…

And so much better to see the team running their races. A lot better than falling out of the back of the TV. Their times will come. The handicapper inevitably slow to relent. I do not have the evidence to corroborate, but it feels that horses get pushed up the grades much faster than they slide back down. Banging the head against hard walls from lofty marks is no fun…

No runners today. Or for a day or three…

The Tattersalls Yearling treadmill churns on for one final day. Four youngsters with dreams attached have joined the team. They remain wonderfully unbeaten…

FIZZY BEAR beaten by one of Gary Moore’s. Quite possibly the great man’s last winner as he announced yesterday that Jamie will be joining Josh on the licence. Gary will no longer be on the licence, but you can bet that very last dollar that he will be amongst the first on the yard…

A top man. Head of a remarkable racing dynasty…

Way back in the mists of time, I was Captain of the South Racing League Team. Prompting Gaz to refer to me as “Brigadier” when our paths crossed, or running plans were discussed on the phone. We see each other plenty around the southern tracks, and he is “General” to me…

I’m sure he will not retreat too deep into those shadows…

Budget concerns rattling around racing’s top tables. And specifically the potential impact of a further rise in Gambling and Gaming taxes. This could be devastating – and what is more than a little scary is the apparent inability to grasp the ramifications for our sport from those in Government…

I have heard of several occasions when MPs have turned up to lobby meetings – but shown total indifference to the points being put forward. Scrolling on their phones as opposed to taking on board what is being said by those who care so deeply about our sport…

Budget Day on the horizon. What fun…

In better news, QPR continue to defy logic as they sit high and pretty near the top of the Championship. Midwinter reality surely not far away…
