Back here, the new BHA Chair Lord Allen ruffling a few feathers at the racecourses. Media and data rights. Battle lines are being drawn up, and already talk that “one day a week Lord Charles” is on the cusp of deciding that this gig is indeed a poisoned chalice. I hope not. His reputation as a heavyweight decision maker precedes him, and it would be troubling to say the least if somebody of his intelligence and foresight is unable to split a few trees from the wood….
“Square One”, vested interests and protectionist in-fighting would be a deeply disappointing place to head back to. Sadly, it seems that we are not much more than a fast run Nunthorpe from being right back where we started…
Cornelius Lysaght on the excellent “Nick Luck podcast” yesterday. Cornelius was in conversation with a “well known racecourse executive” over the holiday period, and made the point that the fabulous attendance figures need to be shouted from the rooftops….
I paraphrase, but the response was along the lines of, “well, they were all right….”
A lack of passion and ambition seeps through the veins of too many who are supposed to be at the forefront of our sport’s Cavalry Charge towards better days. More the retreat from Moscow than “Cavalry Charge” right now. Sadly….
Googling “Greenland”. Which I have not done before, but I will not be alone. A population of circa 55,000. No Horse Racing – and not a lot of cricket. The capital is Nuuk – pronounced as Nuke, which is a little unsettling. Strange times that we live in….
