KITARO KICH has been a mate for a while – and after his 5th win of 2025 last night at Kempton under a fine ride from Neil Callan, he is edging very close to “best mate” status…

Martin Harley after riding him as a 2-year-old in a decent Newmarket maiden – “he’s a Saturday horse for sure….”

But then a few wheels fell off and a splint in an annoying spot put him and us right on the back foot. And this time last year nobody could have forgiven Owners Stephen Tucker, Jim MacHale and Sarah Jewell (and George Baker….) for following the “Horses In Training’ exit strategy…

3 or 4 thousand Guineas – and somebody else having all the fun. Which would have been a little galling. To put it f%%$££@ mildly….

Patient owners are critical, crucial and very wonderful…

And 5 wins in 2025 more than justifies their collective patience….

KK is in again this evening at Chelmsford. Only an option if he shows himself raging fresh and well when the dawn creeps over that far horizon…

That treadmill turning. Candida and I compared diaries for the weeks ahead. And terrified ourselves. We will keep bloody kicking….
