Surreal to be reading about World Cup night at Meydan on Saturday with the region still beset and riven by insecurity, change and turmoil. Several have pressed that gamble button and sent horses to Dubai despite the obvious risks…

Others have taken a more pragmatic approach and kept their charges at home…

What would I have done if we had horses being aimed at World Cup night…??

Having seen the very real danger that our Bahraini team faced at the outset of conflict, I would now be very loath to ask my staff to cross into troubled waters again. Ben and Harriet were superb,and the Bahrain Turf Club have been brilliant in extremely difficult circumstances. But missiles and drones flicking overhead is more than a little unsettling…
