I’m not sure that we were expecting that….
But a trillion times better to have clear chill in the air than persistent and insidious damp. More than a hint of light in the East, bright lights flicking in and out of Gatwick and Heathrow, a gin clear London skyline, high stars, hope and spring….
This time in a month…
Tens of thousands of us will have meandered in various directions. Away from Prestbury Park. Away from the fun and the brilliance and the passion and the high drama…
A relief to pick up a text from Stateside midweek. After Sherminator had won at Ludlow in Sean and Annie Clancy’s Riverdee colours, I sent a message –
“Man !!! Well done. When do you get in….????”
“Thanks ! Cool horse. Glad to see him bounce back from his fall.”
Which was all well and good, but not an answer to the important “when do you get in” bit….
And so a relief to get this on Thursday night –
“Looks like I should fly Friday night so I can get to the Imperial Cup. Will that work ?”
When Clancy, now the Champion National Hunt owner in America, touches down, Cheltenham week begins. It looks like Cheltenham will start at Sandown this year….!!
The Imperial Cup is very much the plan for Gooloogong. Of course I’m now touching all available wood, but he has bounced out of Kempton really well. Touching wood, saluting magpies, no walking under ladders….
No runners here for a while. DESERT COP and GORDON GREY with entries in Bahrain next Thursday. NESTHORN won’t be bounced off that fast ground again this time, and a race like The Rosebery that Cemhaan nailed a couple of years ago could be a good start point to his UK campaign. MAX MAYHEM having a few easy days after picking up a tic borne blood issue…
Blimey, 7.07, and nearly light. Seasons on the turn. Thankfully. That has been one of the longest and hardest winters to navigate. Nearly there….
