Patient and perceptive and decent owners. Dusting themselves down. Going with the collective decision to back right off our filly. Give her time. Giving horses time is always much easier on the back of encouragement as opposed to abject disappointment. Lilly came to us in Sussex. Out on the farm in a grassy paddock. Still beautiful – but now a confusing conundrum of beauty…
Back to the track just before Christmas. 100/1. Obviously. No reason for her to be any shorter. Charlie Bishop gave her a fine and sympathetic ride, and 3rd, albeit 14 lengths behind the winner, at least ignited that glimmer of hope…
Since then, a couple of 2nd and 3rd placings that could easily have been victories on other days. A short break through heatwave June and July. Back to the races last night. Wolverhampton. Not the most alluring of options for her geographically or aesthetically, but the right race at the right time…
