“My old friend…..”

Pitch black when that early alarm sounds. Midsummer brightness and heatwave becoming distant memories. The country has turned from baked brown to bright green…

Tess and Power Of Prayer looking after each other at Southwell last night. First race under the belt. More around the corner. Good effort. Brave effort…

More “sand” later. LILLY LUX (Callum Shepherd) to Wolverhampton. Downtown Dunstall Park a huge part of our lives in the beginning. Every week, we would head down the drive at Far Westfields Farm with lorries filled with gallopers. Music Box Express, Ghufa, Yensi, Sinbad The Sailor, Mondego, Saddlers Rest, Friendly King, Mawsem, If I Had Him and many more…

Names from way back deep in the scrapbook. Names that kickstarted this mad caper…

Ayr centre stage this weekend. Sadly, nothing for us this time in the big sprint handicap. A meeting that first brought the talents of Oisin Murphy to our attention a few years back..

The Ayr Gold Cup. A very fine spectacle. Lochsong the best ever winner…??

Elsewhere, bonkers bids flying around in Keeneland as the big battalions park their tanks opposite each other and play at wild bidding wars. Staggering numbers. Not every “sale” is as it seems with stallions being protected, and deals within deals. But the prices are still eye watering…

Elsewhere Stateside, Belmont Park is on the point of reopening after a massive facelift. Aerial photographs are certainly impressive, and some big name horses, Forever Young in particular, turning up. We have had just the one runner in America. Belgian Bill’s chances in the Arlington Million blown away by a storm that nobody had forecast. Running well despite the “sloppy” conditions under Jamie Spencer, but I’m certain he would have gone very close if those pesky Weather Gods had not rained hard on our parade…

Time to get back over there. #HaveHorse etc…

LOCHSONG….
