That are often a tribulation…
That time of year. When buttons are pressed on gallops flying machines. Young horses. That promise the world at home and then burst a bubble or three when they get to the track…
Galloping all over workmates at home is all well and good. Translating it to the track is another thing altogether….
Plenty of 2-year-old contests in the days and weeks ahead that will have some having Winter dreams of Classic glory. Others who will spend the dark months contemplating a dull drawing board…
Ante post markets will form, and for those at the head of heady lists, the butterflies will begin to rage. Newmarket in May is a long way away, but dreaming plays a big role in our game…
Classic odds clouded further by the fact that Classic winners might not even be seen as 2-year-olds. Newcastle, Wolverhampton, Lingfield and Kempton debuts in January and February are now part of the “trial” season. I left Chelmsford off that list – because who knows what is going on in deepest Essex…??
“Winter dreaming” for some – “bridge building” for others. A fascinating time of year as talking horses are unleashed. Thankfully, on more than the odd occasion, the “talking” ones get well and truly smashed up by the unheralded…
A few hands to play before that baton is passed over to the National Hunt boys and girls..
We interrupt this broadcast to bring you news of the Ewan Picnic Races…
Jeez, that looks like a fun party. Tents and camper vans and gazebos and picnic tables lining the rails. A farm helicopter parked up on the infield. Dust flying off what looks lightening fast ground as horses thunder up the home straight. The sign above the stalls – “Ewan Amateur Racing Club….”
Nothing wrong with “amateur”, and there looks to be a proper party in full swing..
Where is Ewan ?? Another one for that growing Aussie tour…
A fabulously enthralling ODI between England and Sri Lanka yesterday at Headingley…
One day cricket matches provide plenty of trading opportunities as betting odds and exchange prices fluctuate wildly as wickets fall or catches are dropped. Or hamstrings go pop as in the case of poor Jos Buttler…
All good fun. England traded as short as 1.02 on Betfair (50/1 on…!!) and Sri Lanka matched at bigger than 40/1 at one point before landing the spoils…
More volatility than on Black Monday…
The dynamic of these games changes by the ball. When Jos went “pop”, England were 1/5. Nobody likes an aftertimer, but that did not make any sense. And so it proved…
Decider on Sunday. Fascinating.
No runners today…
