“Lord Allen’s future as BHA Chair in the balance ahead of crunch Wednesday evening Board Meeting….”
A very real chance that our sport will head into the denouement of the Jumps season and the start of the Flat with an empty chair at the top. Which, given the total lack of communication from Lord Allen as he rolls his eyes at the “vested”, is desperately sad, but not a surprise…
For those of us on the shop floor who work so hard to shout what is good and great about our sport from the rooftops, there is barely hidden disdain for the self interested who have too much control. Lord Allen was promoted as a heavyweight business leader who could lead us out of the mire, and who could persuade the petty protectionists to come together for the greater good…
We held our breath. In hope. But hope appears dashed, and we are back where we started. A governance laughing stock. Sad, mad, bad – pathetic…
Maybe, just maybe, I can eat all of these words tomorrow morning after tonight’s Board Meeting reveals a massive turning of several corners. Maybe…??!!
I texted Lord Allen yesterday. No reply. No surprise. Sadly…
Jayne McGivern, come back from Saudi, take the reins – PRETTY PLEASE…..!!!
Anyway, enough of that which I cannot control. We will continue to batter away..
Because all will be well, and horses will continue to gallop, and the punters will click through the turnstiles, and our sport will bring great joy, and we will laugh and drink and party with friends – and cracks will be papered over. And some in positions of influence will look around and determine that it ain’t so bad – and we all will muddle on…
Anyway, all will be well, because two weeks from today will see the Champion Chase run. And Spring is in the air, as southerly winds from the Azores, Iberia, Ibiza, Morocco, Antibes and St Tropez drift over us…
Elsewhere, England’s cricketers (and specifically Harry Brook) are in a World Cup semi final. And QPR’s season is dead and buried in a 5-0 thrashing at Southampton. But Aldershot and Farnham are doing all right…
And camera crews are headed this way across the Downs, and famous faces are going to be with us for a few hours, and all will be well…
Tomorrow’s Racing Post headline – “LORD ALLEN PULLS OFF MASTERSTROKE AS ALL VESTED PARTIES AGREE TO WORK TOGETHER FOR THE GREATER GOOD….”
Or….??
