There is a problem. Not a bad problem….

It is this. It is impossible not to find plenty to love in almost every yearling that wanders out of a Book 1 Stable at Tattersalls. The cream of the crop. Supermodel swaggers. Male model sashays too…

Walking around the Sales grounds at Tattersalls yesterday morning, I found myself berating Eva O’Neill. “Jeez, Eva, stop showing me such amazing horses….”

“Just one more walk please….”

“Shall we get him vetted…??”

“What do we value her at…??”

“There is a decent update on the dam’s side as the 2-year-old won at the weekend…”

“Is he a tiny bit feminine…??”

The other problem (or problems) is the big battalions who come with fixed bayonets and loaded wallets. Not quite “money no object” but not far from it. Sheikh Mohammed clearly woke up in punchy form yesterday morning. Telephone number bids piled on top of each other as he made statement upon statement of intent…

Money no object I guess…

With Eva and her boss at Highflyer Bloodstock Anthony Bromley. Looking for angles and edges….

I guess I must have woken up in “punchy form” too…

Lot 99, a stunning filly by Mehmas, bought for 100,000 Guineas. An absolute Queen. A family stacked with Black Type, and relatives that caught pigeons and outran the wind. I loved her from the moment she strode out of Box 438 at Further Paddock just below the Sales ring. I bought her because she is going to take me to Royal Ascot and beyond, and because she is going to be one of my best friends ever….

October Yearling Sale Book 1

16 Lots later. A colt by Palace Pier who filled the eye and ticked every box. That walk !! The kind eye. The scope and the size, and what he will mature into. 60,000 Guineas. Anthony and I are convinced that we stole him. A bargain at Book 1 ??? Just maybe. In fact, certainly….

October Yearling Sale Book 1

That is Royal Ascot 2027 sorted. Two young horses that I’m thrilled to have on our team. May they be lucky, and dance several dances through the years to come…

Royal Ascot horses need Royal Ascot owners. Obvs….

FOR SALE. But unless Anthony and Eva and I have lost our marbles (Thank God for the wise two…), we have taken two more steps forward in terms of quality, class and potential…

We need proper horses. Downs House deserves proper horses…

Yesterday, I bought two proper horses…

Talking of “proper”, what a dude of a horse TIME TELLER is. Quiet encouragement on debut. Then the step forward that we were expecting when 2nd to one that looks a bit special at Leicester yesterday afternoon. Exciting…

Southwell under floodlights. NOW MAYBE running solid and hard and 3rd despite the shenanigans of a wayward favourite knocking us off our stride. A horse with a fine and sensible head on him. Days to be had..

Long day. That started well before dawn in Sussex and ended in Northamptonshire. With Tattersalls, Leicester and Southwell all thrown into the mix…

No runners today. Back to Tattersalls…

“Just one more walk please….”
