Haze…
Over the fiery nodding donkeys that dig deep for riches in desert soil…
An industrial landscape pricked with flaming gas and golden minarets…
Just back from the stables. The harem scarem madcap seat of the pants car drive that feels like an off the wall computer game with no rules. No rules means that undertaking and frenzied tailgating are the order of the day. Stay straight and true, keep a close eye on all mirrors, hold your nerve and line. Plenty wander off that true line, like tired big field handicappers rolling around on heavy legs in the final furlong…
Some sights. An open van with four donkeys quietly munching on their hay as they rage along in the fast lane. Sophie and Harriet had a guy with a machine gun waving their way from the back of a lorry yesterday. They survived to tell that tale – thankfully…
All good with all horses…
Juggling. Telephone calls aplenty to see which plots others are being plotted…
It has fallen like this…
Thursday. Desert Cop (Lee Newman up) will contest the 6 furlong Turf Series race. He is in on Friday as well (Callum up). We shall see on that. Max Mayhem (Lee too) in the Anchorman Cup, the Turf Series race for the middle distance horses….
On Friday, Nesthorm (Callum) will dip his toe into some very deep waters. The Group 3 Crown Prince’s Cup. This is where the juggling and calling happened…
Charlie Appleby bringing two down from Dubai for the big race. And then not bringing two down for the big race. George Scott entered Phantom Flight, but he is now Saudi bound. The race not exactly falling to pieces but, with those three out, looking a viable option….
Nesthorn running in a $200,000 Group 3 was not where we expected to be at the end of January. But sometimes those dice need rolling. And this is the right time to do it. And will determine whether it is back into the Turf Series next time, or whether races like the Shaikh Nasser Trophy and The King’s Cup sneak onto our radar…
Back home, a Racing Post headline that raises eyebrows but is nil surprise…
“BHA reforms at a standstill as boardroom standoff over data rights escalates….”
Blind leading…
