Stabled not 50 yards from where I’m sitting…

The race that is named after him will be run at Sandown on Saturday. Will Constitution River come over the Irish Sea ? Hope so, he’s box office…

Connections of Gethin and others will be hoping that he stays at home…

Marsh Benham is not “box office” in the wider sense of the word, but his is a fun tale at a different level. If he was a person, you would struggle to get anywhere near working out what was going on in his head. If Marsh fancies it, he will run through a brick wall for you. If he gets to the races and thinks that trying and galloping and going for it are not in that day’s order of play, he has it in him to stand stock still in the stalls…

He is funny, quirky and a little bit bonkers…

But he has won 7 races. Which is 7 more than very many will ever do. He has given his owners some great fun and also plenty of eye rolling moments. Seasonal debut at Brighton this afternoon. He loves the place. Jack Callan gets on well with him, and won at Newbury on the old rogue last year. First run back can sometimes see Marsh going through the motions as he tries to recall what it is all about. He might win. He might be tailed off. Whatever happens today, he will have his days before the season is done…

Vesper Honey last night at Kempton. “Stop, start, stop.” Messy from flagfall. Not much has fallen the way of this gorgeous filly so far. Much better days are most certainly ahead…

Stokes. More to come. Laying that draw was the way to go. Not aftertiming. This time…

The World Cup is heating up. Congo tomorrow. Tough watch – or our ’66….??

Cool Eclipse Stakes…
