In one horse race…

A fascinating renewal of the Juddmonte International. Fascinating to watch…

The ITV Director who switched the pictures to the aerial drone halfway up the home straight made an inspired call. The bumping and the burrowing and the boring clear for all to see…

From the start, the script that had been well writ and pored over by all sides was torn asunder. Action, a talking horse through the winter and Derby fancy for many, now consigned to “dogs body” pacemaking duties. But for whatever reason (soured by weeks of being stalked up the gallops and passed by the superstars…??), Action was inactive as stalls flashed open…

Leaving Hawk Mountain to set the pace, but too late to the front to prevent Constitution River from grabbing the bit and doing too much too keenly in his slipstream…

Meanwhile, Action was out of position. But by “chance” (?!), in position to lean and bore and bump in a manner that, to my eyes, did little to help Ombudsman who was trapped against the rails…

From the two pole, Constitution River’s class taking him to the front, but “sitting” and “duck” coming to mind in a matter of strides as early exertions saw the petrol gauge flicker and falter…

William Buick on Ombudsman desperately trying to forge an unlikely seam as Colin Keane held his line on Item. Almaqam thrusting clear and looking for all money as if he had landed that money. He must have traded very short in running. The rain had come in time for him…

In the shadows of the post, Item lunged to spoil Ed Walker and Kieran Shoemark’s party. Kieran hands and heels in the last strides because he knew he was close to the allowed limit on the use of the whip – or the “pro cush” as TV pundits seem to go with nowadays…

Two minutes and 8 seconds and “change”…

Is how long it took to run a horse race that had more twists and turns than most shows that are currently running in the West End…

Riveting. Fascinating. Heart wrenching for some as glory dropped the way of others…

High drama on The Knavesmire – the place has seen plenty of that from Dick Turpin to the present day…

Bloody noses for some of the big boys. Reload and go again today…

Elsewhere in Yorkshire, England in the ascendancy against a fragile Pakistan batting line up. Forecast pretty foul today. Dull if you have tickets. Maybe head to York instead…??

“Good to Soft” – a while since we saw that going description, but not much of it in these parts. Yet. A few tracks with upcoming autumn National Hunt fixtures will be praying for a damp September…

Some horse race. Summed up superbly by Ruby. As ever…
