All credit to our wonderful staff for setting those early alarms and getting on with the day before the day and the mercury take control…

And this is a lot better than icy horizontal sleet in January…
Scuppering a plan or three as ground quickens up around the land. But this is England, it will rain. Patience. Fire the bullets when as much as possible is in your favour. Inevitably, there will be pressure to run horses. Owners own racehorses to go racing. But misfires that soar wide of targets are no good for us, our horses or our owners…
Patience. Wait, and the opportunities will come. No point in bouncing off rock hard ground just for a day out in the sun…
The Prix de L’Arc De Triomphe will be open to geldings for the first time next year. Obviously we will have several targeting the great race next year (?!), and my initial thoughts are that it is good news that the very best racehorses can now compete in this iconic horse race. But the Ballydoyle maestro not so keen – “geldings are much easier to train…”
Aidan has a point. But the best of the best racing against each other regardless of whether they have had the unkindest cut of all makes sense to me…
No runners today. Cool stables are more alluring than heat riddled motorways…
