Kenergy and Alexis Pouchin looked to have slipped the field a furlong and a half from home. “Ride an English race in Deauville” were my words to Alexis – “roll away and wind it up off the home bend…”
My French is, annoyingly, no better than “schoolboy”. Alexis’ English is very limited. But he got the gist of it, and very nearly pulled it off…,
A happy afternoon in a stunning town at a beautiful racecourse. An excellent lunch with great friends in “Dome” beside the pre-paddock. With the French Breeder’s Premium, our 79 rated maiden won the best part of €8000 – a neck the other way, and it would have been €18,000..

Kenergy en route back home, and on the Eurostar shortly. A real pro – and all being well, we will head back over the Channel to try and break his maiden in a few weeks time. Compiegne, north of Paris, on 15th September leaps off the pages of the French Programme Book….
Geographically, it makes perfect sense for us. Easier to get across the Channel than to an awful lot of places north of Watford. Better prize money. A wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. Great fun. Proper wine lists. On y va……

He may not have the French Premiums – but that won’t stop him looking very pretty up the home straight at Deauville, Compiegne, Chantilly, St Cloud or Ascot…

We have a stunning bunch of 2-year-olds on the place. Plenty of them might not run this season. Which is in no way a negative. Time and patience and more time. I need to be sitting down with their owners at the end of their careers and looking back on campaigns well managed and not regretting pressing buttons too soon…
A lovely bunch of young horses who will flourish with another winter on their backs…
And if we can add some cool yearlings to the mix in the months ahead, we will have a fresh and exciting team to go to war with over the coming years…
